Sustainable Approaches to Agriculture with Green Chemistry Principles
Poorani Gnanakanthan
Abstract

Environmental issues are caused by agricultural techniques used worldwide. Specifically, underdeveloped countries are having trouble coming up with sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches to farming using green chemistry principles. The purpose of this research project is to identify common problems farmers are facing in different geological locations, primarily focusing on Sri Lanka, and the negative impacts it has on cashew and paddy production. The usage of agrochemicals and climate change are the two main issues that farmers in underdeveloped countries face. Their effects on people's health and the environment have been profound. Additionally, due to their intendable farming techniques, cash crop yields that serve as their primary source of revenue have fallen throughout time. Given this issue, green chemistry solutions that are both inexpensive and environmentally friendly were investigated to be applied in Sri Lanka to help maximize crop yield while minimizing pollution. The inclusion of microbial mixtures and bio-based plant protection products are examples of such solutions discovered.
