Abstract

Trained Mindset & Mindfulness Coach and Podcast Co-Host

This proposal describes the process and outcome of using technology to provide meditation, mindfulness practices and supportive conversation for mental health. This experience was offered daily in audio format in the Zen for Ten club on Clubhouse and by podcast. The initiative aimed to provide fast, simple, easy effective practices and conversations to sadness, anxiety, and overall wellbeing. The group style structured meditations allowed participants to feel safe, keep anonymity and practice evidence-based breathwork, sound and meditation techniques; furthermore, they also gained a supportive community through interactive conversation. The initiative aimed to help participants connect with sensations in their body, understand emotions, heal trauma, and gain self-awareness. The consistent availability provided helped participants to develop keystone habits to practice in group form or independently.

The daily audio sessions were partly guided and self-leading, incorporating passive and active forms meditation and mindfulness practices for immediate stress management and short and longterm emotional regulation. The sessions were conducted via Clubhouse a mobile app allowing participants who were new to meditation and mindfulness the flexibility to drop in for any or all the techniques at their convenience. Following the meditation, a group discussion allowed participants to share experience, journal, and gain awareness. The compassionate and empathetic community offered participants a place to feel safe, connected and supported and simultaneously manage stress, adversity, and loneliness.

Participant communicated that space they felt happy, calm, and relaxed and were motivated to return daily. While newcomers to meditation and mindfulness practices found it difficult to overcome the racing thoughts, they recognized that with the passive and active practice combination they could become present faster and were able to focus on the techniques. The participants discussed how the regular practice of breathwork, chant and meditation improved emotional regulation and relationships and could be a tool to help people connect and cultivate inner peace and harmonious relationships. Moreover, the Zen for Ten club was recognized by Clubhouse to be a top ten mental health space.
