Abstract
Many studies investigated the relationships between urban layout and its impact on the movement patterns and decision-making processes of pedestrians. This conceptual review paper aims to examine the significance of spatial configuration in understanding pedestrian behavior in crowded walking streets, especially focuses on using space syntax analysis method as a tool to explore this relationship. Results show that while previous research conducted by space syntax analysis has provided valuable insights into urban design and planning, it is essential to shed light on the existing gaps and limitations in this field of research and theory. The critical investigation of the current state of knowledge identified key gaps within its theoretical and methodological domains. These suggestions included using combined methodologies to improve the investigations as well as to avoid any possible issues, such as consideration of pedestrian diversity and their group behaviour for incorporating the social and cultural aspects that influence their movement behavior.

Keywords: Space Syntax, pedestrian movement behavior, mixed land use, urban layout
