Abstract

Foods and medicinal plants are abundant sources of natural antioxidants. These natural antioxidants have various biological effects, including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and anti-atherosclerotic can all be found in pomegranate (Punica granatum L.). According to wet weight, the by-product, known as pomegranate marc, contains 78% peel. This study compares the bioactive phenolic compound extract from pomegranate peel alone and the co-extraction of pomegranate peel with green tea. Additionally, the study quantified the antioxidant activity of the phenolic extracts using DPPH analysis and the Folin-Ciocalteu Method. For statistical validation, the antioxidant levels were examined in triplicates. This presentation informs the optimized extraction method identified for the phenolic compounds in Punica granatum L. peel and their antioxidant abilities.
