Efficacy of Organic Cross-Couplings using Metal Catalysts in Pharmaceutical Synthesis: Moving Towards a More Sustainable Catalysis
Abstract
Metal-ion catalyst have been widely used in the pharmaceutical industry in terms of its effectiveness in the production of drugs that are used by consumers. Since the pandemic, various different industries have experienced drug and productivity shortages, thus new synthesis and procedures are developed constantly to keep up with the demands. This paper investigates the importance of such metal-ion catalysis reaction, more specifically cross-coupling reactions using a metal-ion catalyst, to the pharmaceutical industry today and also propose future directions to produce effective and sustainable synthesis of drugs throughout these types of catalysis.
