Abstract

Abstract

This work presents the synthesis of NiO-CeO2 nanoparticles (NPs) and their carbonaceous (rGO, g-C3N4) nanocomposites (NCs) via a simple hydrothermal method by using urea and ammonium fluoride as stabilizers. X-ray diffraction revealed a face centered cubic structure for NiO-CeO2 NPs and their NCs, no other phases were formed due to the presence of rGO and g-C3N4. FTIR spectra confirmed the presence of metal oxide and functional groups in the synthesized samples. Raman spectra depicted the modes of vibration and order/disorder in the carbonaceous composite materials of the synthesized product. In addition, the synthesized samples were evaluated to assess the electrochemical performance of the synthesized electrodes such as EIS, CV and GCD. Results showed that NiO-CeO2/rGO NCs is an efficient electrode material for supercapacitors with notable specific capacitance at 1 A/g in 2 M KOH and remarkable cyclic retention after 5000 cycles [1]. This work reveals a cost-effective and uncomplicated synthesis of NiO-CeO2 and their NCs electrodes which enhance specific capacitance for energy storage applications.
