Abstract

Carbon nanotubes have attracted significant attention in the advanced development of sustainable energy storage applications. The role of bimetallic metal catalysts for effective preparation of binder free direct growth carbon nanotubes are synthesised by chemical vapour deposition method. Such composites of CNTs facilitates easy access to CNT surfaces for better charge storage activities of high electrolyte ions and increases the specific surface area of aligned CNTs. The electrochemical performances of the prepared Co-MgO/CNT, Fe-MgO/CNT and Co-Fe-MgO/CNT electrodes are investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis. Better growth of carbon nanotubes can be achieved by optimising the reaction temperature, precursor gas flow, and processing time, evidenced by morphological variations for catalyst assisted Co-MgO/CNT, Fe-MgO/CNT and Co-Fe-MgO/CNT.
