Abstract

The present work reveals the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by readily using Citrus sinensis and Citrus limetta fruit peel extract (Ag-O & Ag-S) as a capping agent. The synthesized Ag-O and Ag-S were characterized by powder x-ray diffractometer (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HR-TEM). The absorption band was observed at 435 nm and 434 nm for Ag-O and Ag-S. The current work conveys that the capped AgNPs exhibit an antibacterial effect against gram positive (G+ve) and gram negative (G-ve) bacteria which deliver the NPs into the cell wall and DNA cause bacterial death. Also, the Ag-O and Ag-S exposed anticancer activity against MCF-7 cancer cell lines with IC50 values observed at 103.55 µg/mL and 77.36 µg/mL. This work emphases an extensive use of the metallic NPs for biomedical applications in a greener approach without exposure of chemicals as side effects.
