Abstract

Tungsten sulfide (WS2) incorporated cobalt ferrite (CoFe) nano boxes were prepared through hydrothermal and co-precipitation methods for supercapacitor application. On incorporation of WS2 with CoFe on appropriate ratio, the structural transformation from nanocube to nano boxes were obtained with increased specific surface area, more exposed active edge sites, and improved electrocatalytic behaviour. The resulting WS2 incorporated CoFe electrode shows an improved specific capacitance of 500 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g. The Capacitance retention was noted to be 86% and Columbic efficiency was 97%, even after 5000 cycles for 2M KOH electrolyte. The optimized asymmetric supercapacitor device displays an energy density value of 38 Wh/kg and a power density of 850 W/kg at a current density of 1 A/g. The assembled WS2 incorporated CoFe//AC device holds capacitance retention and coulombic efficiency of 70% and 97% after 5000cycles, respectively. The excellent electrochemical performance of WS2 incorporated CoFe makes it a promising electrode material for energy storage applications.
