Synthesis and characterization of photocatalytic active materials
Abstract
The synthesis of CdWO4 and its effect on removal of toxic pollutants in wastewater under light irradiation has been explored. CdWO4 was prepared by co- precipitation method. The XRD pattern confirmed the formation of monoclinic CdWO4. The UV absorption spectra showed absorbance around 300- 400 nm. The PL studies showed the optical and semiconducting property of the synthesized pure CdWO4. The FT-IR spectra showed the metal oxygen vibrations in the region of 400 to 500 cm-1 and the fingerprint region showed the stretching and O-H bond vibrations in the prepared samples. Morphology of the pristine sample showed that the nanostructures with high cluster of layer formed. The photocatalytic activity was investigated under visible light using cationic dye. The results demonstrate the removal of the dye and the C/C0 plot gives the better degradation of all the samples. The kinetic study reveals the pseudo first order reaction of the system and reduction of toxic pollutants.
