Abstract

Synthesis of low-cost and high electrochemical activity material to regenerate electrolytes and to enhance the efficiency (counter electrodes (CE)) is of paramount area for the Dye Sensitised Solar Cells. Tungsten disulfide (WS2) quantum dots incorporated Cobalt Ferrite (CoFe) nanocubes composites were prepared by a simple ultra-sonication process, where WS2 quantum dots and CoFe were synthesized by hydrothermal method and precipitation method, respectively. The morphology of WS2/CoFe composites was investigated by FE-SEM, and HR-TEM analysis, where the CoFe sample showed nanocubes. By adding different mass ratio of WS2 quantum dots (WS2/CoFe-1, WS2/CoFe-2, WS2/CoFe-3), the morphology of CoFe nanocubes has turned into hollow nanoboxes. The electrochemical (Cyclic voltammetry) and charge transport properties (Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) were studied by using a three-electrode system. The (WS2/CoFe -2) Counter Electrode shows better catalytic activity when compared with other Counter Electrodes owing to more exposed edge sites with well-defined interior voids. The WS2/CoFe -2(3.0%) showed better photovoltaic power conversion efficiency which was 2 times higher than the CoFe Counter Electrode (1.43%) based DSSCs.
